Below par performance in Asian Junior Chess

KATHMANDU, July 7: Indian International Master Aswin Jayaram won the Asian Junior Chess Championship title held in Sri Lanka on Tuesday. IM Amanov Zhanibek of Kazakhstan came second in the boy´s category.[break]



In girl´s category, Women´s International Master Padmini Rout won the title and Women FIDE Master Hejazipour Mitra from Iran secured second.



But the Nepali players´ performance in the championship remained below normal. Nepal´s U-19 champion Nikesh Duwal defeated unrated Sri Lankan player Weerakamn in the 9th and last round of the championship. With the win, Nikesh accumulated 3.5 points.



However, in the girl´s category, Nepal´s number one player Mona Lisa Khamboo suffered defeat against 1852 rated Sri Lankan player Ranashinghe SD and remained on 2.5 points.
