Pandey´s made the remarks to address the current bad track record that network businesses have of alluring consumers by promising impossible benefits upon the purchase of their goods.
“Some of the network businesses failed in the past due to the far-fetched promises they made to consumers. These businesses must uphold ethical values and must be professional in their business dealings if they are to sustain themselves in the market,” said Pandey, at the third anniversary of Best World Business Link (BWBL), a marketing network, on Saturday.
Jeevan Bhandari, president of Nepal Direct Sales Association, an umbrella organization of network businesses, and Rup Kumar Kshetry, managing director of BWBL, asked the government to immediately enforce the Network Business Guidelines, which was finalized in 2007.
Purushottam Ojha, secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supply, gave assurances that the guidelines would be enforced at the earliest, to ensure that consumers wouldn´t be cheated and so that network businesses would flourish.
