KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Bauddha FC of Kathmandu became the first team to face relegation from the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull A Division Football League on Thursday with three matches to spare after it was defeated 3-0 by NMB Bank Machhindra Club at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu.

A goal from Bishal Rai A in the first half and a goal apiece from skipper Dipak Rai and Karna Limbu in the second half sealed a comprehensive victory for Maachhindra as it leveled points with leader Three Star at the top of points table with 26 points apiece. [break]Machhindra stood second on the basis of goals superiority. Bauddha hit the rock bottom with one point.

A victory for Bauddha could have secured a "mathematical chance" for the club to secure a place in the A division next season.

Bauddha´s coach Kiran Shrestha accepted the result as natural. "It is the part of a game. If not us, some other team would have been relegated, "said Shrestha, adding, “I have been demanding foreign players from the beginning but the club was unable to fulfill my demand."

The club which got promoted to A division for the first time in 2062 BS was relegated to B division the same year. But it got promoted to A division in the 065/66BS League conducted by Nepal Football Association -- the rival faction of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), before the two associations merged. Again after elevation to the A division league, Bauddha finished in the 11the position among 18 A division teams in the 2068 BS League.

"The team should not get nervous in the league," said Bauddha coach Shrestha.

Saraswati thumps APF

In another match of the day, Saraswati Club piled pressure against departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) with a 3-0 victory.

Kushal Shrestha broke the deadlock for Saraswati in the 43rd minute while Africa recruit Yona Elias Ndabla and substitute Surendra Tamanag scored late goals in the second half.

Saraswati moved one spot up to 10th with 17 points in its kitty while APF remained unchanged in the 13th position with 12 points.

Meanwhile, ANFA has postponed Friday´s matches between NRT and Madhyapur, and RCT Vs MMC. The matches will be held on Saturday.
