Locals retaliated against the Maoists enforcing the strike and attacked CA member Prem Bahadur Tamang who sustained head injury and another CA member Santamaya Tamang was rescued by the police before the locals could manhandle her.
After the police foiled Maoist sister wing Tamsaling Joint Struggle Committee´s bid to enforce a transport strike at Balaju, the Maoist cadres tried to set ablaze a microbus full with passengers at Goldhunga, inviting the local´s wrath in which the two Maoist CA members were caught.
Police arrested six Tamsaling cadres from Balaju and five from Goldhunga. According to an official at Metropolitan Police Circle, Balaju, CA member Santamaya did not leave the police office till late afternoon, demanding that all arrested be freed.
This is the second case in which the metropolitan police took so prompt action against attempts of obstruct the roads in the capital. The Home Ministry has recently directed the police to immediately thwart any unwanted enforcement of strikes.
Police released all the arrested persons after locals agreed not to file any case against the detainees who allegedly tried to torch the microbus, a police officer said.
The Tamsaling committee took to the streets, demanding implementation of the 19-point agreement reached with the past Maoist-led government. Meanwhile, the government on Monday appealed to the committee to come to the negotiation table.
