Baitadi, APF maintain winning streak

KATHMANDU, March 18: Region No 6 (Baitadi) and departmental giant Armed Police Force (APF) Club recorded second consecutive wins on Wednesday in the Men's Senior One-day National Cricket Tournament under way in the capital.

Baitadi defeated Region No 3 (Kathmandu) by 119 runs at Pulchowk Engineering Ground, while APF thrashed Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) by nine wickets at the Tribhuvan University Ground on Wednesday to maintain winning run. Both the winning sides have four points each but Baitadi stands on top of the table by the virtue of better run rate.


Baitadi restricted Kathmandu at 183/9 in the run chase after posting a mammoth target of 303 runs. Baitadi came up with disciplined bowling to restrict Kathmandu on low score. Kathmandu batsmen failed to share any noticeable partnership in the run chase.

Bhupendra Thapa Chhetri top scored 46 runs off 107 balls for Kathmandu. Rupesh Shrivastav (28) and Ritesh Singh (27) were other major run scorers.

Baitadi's Kamal Airee bagged three wickets giving away only 25 runs in 10 overs. His spell included three maiden overs. Similarly, Prem Tamang claimed two wickets giving away 31 runs in 10 overs, with a maiden over.

Earlier, asked to bat first, Baitadi scored 302/10 in 50 overs after Yogendra Karki contributed 83 runs off 72 balls. Similarly, Skipper Santosh Bhatt added 47 and Dilip Nath contributed 40 runs and Roshan Nepali 31 runs.

Ritesh picked up four wickets for Kathmandu, while Prashanna Shakya took two wickets.

In another match, APF Club chased a meager target of 84 runs posted by Bhairahawa in 9.4 overs with nine wickets in hand. Subash Khakurel remained not out on 60-runs off 33-balls. He smashed ten boundaries for the winning side.

Susan Bhari bagged the only wicket for Bhairahawa conceding 26 runs in three overs.

Earlier, Bhairahawa was bundled out for 83 runs in 32.4 overs after it opted to bat first. Antim Thapa (18) and Kriten Gurung (14) were the only batsmen for Bhairahawa to reach double figure score.

Yagyaman Kumal, Pradeep Airee and Arif Seikh claimed three wickets each for APF Club and Sanjam Regmi bagged remaining one wicket.
