But on Wednesday morning, there was a long row of colorful tents erected in the Narayan Municipality, the district headquarters. These tents were erected by around 15 displaced families from the Badi community of Tallodhungeswor of Laulekatuwal VDC to mount pressure on the government to resettle them. [break]
“We are here as the District Administration Office has not taken any initiative so far to resettle us,” said the agitating members of the Badi community. They had arrived in the municipality on Tuesday night and had erected tents overnight without caring about the heavy downpour.
Sher Bahadur Badi, one of the agitating Badis , said the government should immediately take initiatives to resettle them and end their ordeal. “We have no food to eat, no clothes to wear and no house to live. Everything was swept away by the flood,” he said.
On July 17, the flood in Karnali and Lohore rivers had inundated the Badi settlement, forcing them to live under the open sky.
Radha Badi said the floods swept away all their property and they do not know where to go.
“The government should provide us land and relocate us,” said she.
Meanwhile, a team led by Chief District Officer Hem Nath Thapaliya met with the flood victims on Wednesday. Thapaliya assured them that he would take initiatives to relocate them. He also said that the DAO would temporarily shelter them to public schools and provide them food.
