Police arrested Singh on Saturday, the day the MPRF’s three-day convention kicked off. The high profile arrest drew the attention of both the ordinary people as well as the media persons.
“He (Singh) suddenly attracted the attention of all the mediapersons,” says journalist Krishna Udas Khanal. “This trend is continuing.”
Singh, who catapuplted to limelight since his election as an independent member in the Constituent Assembly, has remained very successful in drawing public attention.
When he was produced at the Parsa District Court on Sunday, there was a big crowd at the court and all local journalists spent four hours on the court premises to listen to the hearing.
The commoners are more curious to know more about Singh’s arrest than the MPRF convention. His arrest has dominated teashop gossips and household chats. “I had never seen in my 14 years of practice as a lawyer that an accused man drawing so much attention,” a lawyer had told a judge of the court. “I request the jury to deliver justice in such a way that it becomes a pride of the court.”
Singh drew public attention not only during the day. All the journalists rushed to the Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital in the evening when Singh was admitted to the hospital after he complained of chestpain.
A journalist says Singh has more media attention after he claimed that he knows the people behind the murder of journalist Uma Singh. “Most of what he says seems to be true,” says the journalist, who doesn’t want to be named.
