Ansari, who was arrested for possessing over Rs 2.5 million counterfeit Indian bank notes on Friday from Blue Bird Hotel, was produced before the court on Sunday.
A joint team of Nepal Police Headquarters and Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, had jointly arrested Ansari along with his three aides from Kathmandu.
The aides arrested, according to police, include his body guard Kashi Ram Adhikari of Sudal VDC-1, Bhaktapur and two Pakistani nationals - Mohammad Iqbal and Mohammad Sajjad.
According to SP Ganesh KC, who heads the Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, the joint police team also recovered 3 kg 700 gram brown sugar from the arrested Pakistani national, Mohammad Sajjad. Police believe that Yunus could have his nexus in drug smuggling as well.
The police have begun further investigation to gather evidences to initiate legal action against Yunus and his aides. Yunus´ body guard Adhikari had brought two suit cases filled with counterfeit currency from Thamel Hotel to the former´s his rented room at Blue Bird Hotel, the police said.
Addressing a press conference at the Metropolitan Police Commissioner´s Office, Rani Pokhari, SP KC said the illegal drug was recovered from a brief case found at Red Planet Guest House, where Sajjad had been living for the past few days.
Preliminary police investigation has shown that the drug was brought from Pakistan to Nepal with the intent to smuggle it to US via China.
Sources said Nepal Police had initiated investigation against Yunus after the Indian intelligence agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation, sent a report claiming his involvement in the fake Indian currency.
Yunus is the proprietor of the National News Television. His father Salim Miyan Ansari was a Minister for Land Reform and Management during King Gyanendra-led cabinet back in February 2005.
