ILLAM, March 19: The joint panel of the All Nepal National Free Students' Union (ANNFSU) and the Nepal Students' Union (NSU) has won the Free Students' Union election at Mahendra Ratna Multiple Campus in Ilam.
ANNFSU's Bishal Karki secured victory as the president in the direct election panel, receiving 545 votes. His closest rival, Shambhu Rai of ANNFSU (Revolutionary), garnered 347 votes as the common panel's candidate.
Election officer Devraj Ghimire reported that NSU’s Rekha Begaha won the position of secretary with 621 votes, defeating Sabin Chauhan, who received 258 votes. ANNFSU’s Sunil Shankar claimed the treasurer’s position with 592 votes, while Manish Gajmer trailed behind with 273 votes.
Among the seven elected members, Kushal Rai (602 votes), Nisha Bhattarai (513 votes), Biplav Ekten (520 votes), Mangesh Rai (517 votes), Bina Basnet (466 votes), and Surendra Gurung (386 votes) secured their positions.
In the proportional representation category, voters cast 904 ballots. NSU led with 336 votes, securing three seats. ANNFSU (affiliated with CPN-UML) followed with 275 votes and three seats, ANNFSU (Revolutionary) obtained 200 votes and two seats, while ANNFSU (affiliated with CPN-Unified Socialist) gained 78 votes and one seat. The election saw 15 invalid votes. Out of 1,574 registered voters, 904 participated in the election.
