KATHMANDU, May 20: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has slapped the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) with a fine of US$ 6,000 for the misconduct of Nepali spectators during Nepal´s match against Bangladesh in the Group D qualifiers of AFC Challenge Cup earlier on March 4 at the Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu.

The AFC Disciplinary Committee´s meeting held on May 14 at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia took a decision to the effect holding ANFA liable for the spectators´ misconduct during the match. [break]

Nepali fans had resorted to unsporting behavior soon after Nepal conceded the first goal in the 28th minute of the match, which Nepal lost 2-0. In the first half, spectators from the ordinary parapet had hurled some objects toward the ground and assistant referee Igor, forcing the match to be halted for five minutes.

In the second half also, spectators from the VIP parapet had hurled water bottles, coins, mobile phones, lighters and other objects toward the ground.

The disciplinary committee meeting concluded that ANFA had violated Article 67 par 1 and par 3 of the AFC Disciplinary Code and has ordered ANFA to settle the fine within 30 days from the date the decision is communicated. ANFA has also been ordered to inform AFC about the security measures it has taken to ensure such incident does not occur in future. Likewise, AFC has ordered ANFA to inform whether it has identified the perpetrator and taken any action against the perpetrator.

This is not the first time that ANFA has been fined for fans´ misconduct. AFC had fined Nepal for a similar incident during the AFC U-19 Qualifiers held in 2010. Along with Nepal, the AFC Disciplinary Committee has fined 11 other national football associations and various clubs of Asia for violating the game´s regulations. Afghanistan is the other country from South Asia to be fined by AFC.
