KATHMANDU, Sept 15: All three Tamang siblings -- Sara Devi, Nangsal Devi and Ratnajeet -- have entered the women´s and men´s singles finals of the Third Li-Ning Pushpalal Memorial Ranking Badminton Championship being held at the covered hall of Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu. All three represent Nepal Army Club. [break]

Top seed Ratnajeet will meet former champion Bikash Shrestha in the men´s final on Monday, while the women´s title clash will be a rematch of last edition´s final in which Sara had defeated her sister Nangsal.

On Sunday, Sara defeated her colleague Amita Giri in straight sets while Nangsal toiled hard to beat Sabina Panthi of Armed Police Force (APF) in three sets.

The 27-year-old, 5 feet tall Sara weighing just 46 kg beat Giri 21-14, 21-8 while her younger sister Nangsal overcame Panthi 21-11, 16-21, 22-20.

"I feel pleased to play with my younger sister in the final and my brother also secured final berth," said Sara, who described the semifinal win over her colleague as "comfortable". Sara had earlier defeated Panthi in the league round to advance as the winner of Group B while Panthi had advanced as the runner-up.

"I was optimistic that Nangsal would beat Panthi as she plays competitive match with me. But she might not have been confident against Panthi," shared Sara, who has won 14 national titles in the past nine years. "I hope the final against her will be competitive. Though I am better than Nangsal on most occasions during practice, she has also defeated me. Anything can happen in the match and she can play more confidently with me than other opponents. But whoever wins will be from our family."

Asked if she would deliberately lose the final against her younger sister, Sara laughed and said, "No, it is a game. We will give our best." She added that even their mother wants them to put in their best efforts.

The Tamang sisters also made it to the women´s doubles final defeating Samjhana Khaling and Shikshya Shrestha´s pair of APF 15-21, 21-10, 21-10. Their opponents in the final will be Puja Shrestha and Sabina Panthi of APF who overcame the pair of Amita Giri and Shreya Pradhan 21-5, 21-15 in another semifinal.

Meanwhile, Ratnajeet defeated Sajan Krishna Tamrakar of APF 21-9, 21-11 in straight sets to reach the men´s final. Similarly, Bikash Shrestha of APF overcame Dipesh Dhami of Army 24-22, 21-9 in straight sets to set up a title clash with Ratnajeet.

After securing berth in the final, former champion and third seed Shrestha said he has set a target of regaining no 1 position. "Last year was painful for me as I failed to win a single title. But this time I wish to get back my top status winning the title," said Shrestha, adding that his win in the first set paved the way for a straight sets victory. "Dhami is better in smash, but after winning the first set I did not give him opportunity to play his game. Besides, I also did not concede negative points."

In the men´s doubles semifinal, Tamang and Ram Rai´s pair of Army defeated Ram Baniya and Bishwa Gurung´s pair of Kathmandu 21-16, 21-17. Similarly, Bishnu Katuwal and Bejeet Thapa Magar of Nepal Police Club saw off Sudip Sedai and Sajan Krishna Tamrakar pair of APF 21-16, 21-19.

Dipesh Dhami of Army and Bijeet Thapa Magar of Police secured berths in the final of U-19 boys´ singles winning their respective semifinal fixtures. Similarly, Shreya Pradhan of Army and Shiksha Shrestha of APF reached the final of U-19 girls´ singles.

Anil Shrestha of Lalitpur will face Nir Bikram Devkota of Kathmandu in the U-15 boys´ singles final while Jessica Gurung of Army will take on Mega Chand of the same departmental team in the final of U-15 girls´ singles.
