KATHMANDU, Sept 8: At Baphal, Albatross, one of Nepal’s most renowned bands, meets to practice. Though the practice house, which belongs to Niraj Bajracharya, the drummer, is big and looks luxurious, it’s completely empty in the inside, with bare cemented floors and walls with no furniture.[break]

Shirish Dali, the vocalist, leads us to the first floor, where behind a closed door, the rest of the band are jamming, preparing for their upcoming event.

On this Saturday, September 11, Albatross is one of the many bands that are paying tribute to Black Sabbath in “Heaven and Hell: A Tribute to Black Sabbath” at Bhrikuti Mandap Funpark.

Inside the closed door is a well-lit and carpeted room. The drums are placed in one corner while a few amplifiers take some space at the other end. Other than that, you can move around with ease inside. “It’s not only about giving Sabbath a tribute, it’s giving Metal a tribute,” says Avaya Bajracharya, the bassist. “I think that without them, there would be no metal,” he adds.

Sporting an Ayurveda logo, a band based in America, on his guitar’s body, Sunny Bajracharya, the guitarist, expresses that even more than the presence of Ozzy in Sabbath, Tony Iommi and the other members are the ones who are creating legendary riffs and music.

“But Ozzy is cool as well,” protests Niraj.

“I don’t like Ozzy,” comes the reply from Sunny.

“Even though Sabbath isn’t a great influence on me, and I’m more into Alternative-Rock than Metal,” puts Dali, “they are still an awesome band.”

Avaya, wearing a Manchester United jersey, states that Sabbath represents true stoner-metal. “Getting stoned and playing rock, that’s fantastic,” the band members voice together.

The band plans to perform some of Sabbath’s best on Saturday. Abracadabra, The Wizard, Lord of this World, Planet Caravan, and a few others are on the list to play, the members mention.
