Action plan to save vultures

KATHMANDU, Jan 6: The government has formulated a five-year action plan on vulture conservation, the Department of National Park and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC) said on Wednesday.

The plan includes providing not well-decomposed foods, initiate awareness campaigns, monitoring the band medicine in the market and extend vulture restaurants.

The main reason behind vulture extinction is said to the use of a dangerous medicine ´Diclophenec” which is used for the treatment of cows.

The Association of Bird Conservation has said that another dangerous medicine ´Ketoprofene´ has also been identified in Nepali market of late.

A recent study conducted in 24 districts revealed that this medicine was available in Inaruwa and Sunsari.
