9 Lt Cols against fast-track promotion system

KATHMANDU, March 14: Nine lieutenant colonels of Nepal Army (NA) have expressed strong reservations over the newly introduced promotion procedure for the vacant post of colonel.



According to the Directorate of Public Relations of NA, nine lieutenant colonels have filed complaint against the fast-track promotion system claiming that the committee formed to recommend names for promotions was unfair and unacceptable. [break]The fast-track promotions committee had recommmended sixteen names for promotion.



According to the DPR, the complaint by the dissident officers was registerd at the Nepal Army secretariat as per the provisions in the Army Service Regulations, 2069.



The regulations also provide the opportunity of fast-track promotion on the basis of evaluation on work performance.



Within 15 days of the recommendations committee recommending anyone for promotion, any competant candidate from the NA can claim for the promotion with details of his qualification.
