Police informed that eight passengers had died on the spot and the ninth died at the Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara in the course of treatment. [break]
According to police inspector Jagat Bandhu Pokharel, the deceased are jeep driver Prithvi Pun, 22, of Dhairing VDC-5; Aaisa Pun, 7, of Salija VDC-6; Sita Fhagani, 18, of Silaja VDC-8; Chankhabir Fhagani, 55, of Lekhfhat VDC-9; Purna Bahadur Khorja, 55, of Tanahun; Man Maya Khorja, 40, of Tanahun; Bhim Bahadur Thapa, 30, of Gorkha; Khim Maya Pun, 45, of Kaski; and Anita Bhujel, 21, of Lekhnath Municipality.
Pokharel informed that the relatives of the deceased will be handed over the bodies after post mortem at Mygadi District Hospital.
Meanwhile, the injured passengers are being treated at both Mygadi District Hospital and Manipal Teaching Hospital. The injured have been identified at Gam Bahadur Pun, 25, of Silaji VDC-9; Tika Pun, 35, of Silaji VDC-7; Gyan Maya Thapa, 25, of Silaji VDC-8; Bhim Pun of Silaji VDC-3; and Rajesh Pun and Ashok Pun of Kaski.
"A three-year old child has also been admitted to the hospital but we are still trying to ascertain his identity and address," said Pokharel.
Commenting on the accident, the chief of District Traffic Police Office, Parbat, Bikash Timilsina said the jeep could have lost control while making a sharp turn along the narrow road.
Police had received information about the accident through the locals of Dhairing VDC. Both the locals and police were involved in the rescue work.
