4 hurt in Maoists-monarchists clash

BIRATNAGAR, July 7: Three Maoists were injured in a clash with monarchists during the birthday celebration of ex-king Gyanendra in Biratnagar on Tuesday evening. Dharmalal Majhi, Gyan Bahadur Karki and Devi Darnal were injured when police baton charged them during the clash. A police officer, sub inspector Bam Bahadur Koirala, was also injured in the incident.



The clash ensued when the Maoist cadres tried to chase away a group of monarchists led by Muslim Miyan who were celebrating the birthday of ex-king Gyanendra at Mahendra Chowk in Biratnagar.



The Maoists have accused police of beating them up and protecting the monarchists.
