3rd Mobile Expo: Low-cost sets steal the show

KATHMANDU, Sept 18: The 3rd Mobile Expo being held at Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu, has become successful in recording total sales worth more than Rs 20 million by Saturday, thanks to special rates offered by mobile dealers. More than 100,000 people have already visited the expo.



Ambica Prasad Dhakal, the president of Mobile Association of Nepal - the organizer of the event, said they have found more people attracted toward low-priced handset. He further informed that they intend to record transactions of Rs 60 million in the six-day event that began on Thursday. [break]



Leading mobile brands like Nokia, Samsung, LG and Motorola, among others have stalls at the expo. A total of 22 companies are participating in the event. Nokia is selling handsets ranging between Rs 2,160 to Rs 39,360, while Samsung´s stall features handsets priced in the range of Rs 1,850 to Rs 51,500.



However, the special attraction in the expo is the participation of Indian mobile brands like Colors, Spice and G´Five, among others that are offering mobile set with dual SIM at as low as Rs 2,500. Most of the low-end sets feature FM radio, attractive games, speaker phone and torch light, among others.



Shail Agrawal of Grapes Mobile said the attraction of handset with dual SIM is on the rise. He informed that Grapes was offering CDMA phone with dual SIM at Rs 7,700.



Shweta, the marketing coordinator of G´Five Mobile, informed myrepublica.com that the demand for low-cost set is very impressive. “Though we are getting inquiries about all the sets, the sale of low-cost set is higher,” she added. She also said G´Five was offering attractive discount on handsets throughout the event.



Though the sale of low-cost phone is high, mobile dealers said the enquiries for high end sets like Wynncom Y-10, Samsung I-9000, Nokia N-95 and LG BL-40 are also impressive. These sets support 3G service and, bigger LCD screen, Wi-Fi and huge expandable memory among other features.
