A police report confirmed that nine personnel from NA, five from Nepal Police and one from APF are dead, with about 11 security personnel, including 10 NA personnel, still unaccounted for.
NA Spokesperson Brigadier General Jagadish Chandra Pokharel said, "Ten NA personnel in Lantang, Rasuwa district have not come into contact to date." According to him, the real picture of the human casualty and property damage is still to emerge, but over 500 NA buildings have been totally destroyed in the various quake-hit zones. NA Headquarters building has been inspected by the authorities and designated unsafe and dangerous. However, Nepal Police Headquarters is relatively safer."Despite the huge loss to families and property, over 90 percent of NA personnel have been deployed in rescue and relief operations as per directives from high command," General Pokharel said.
Similarly, five personnel from Nepal Police have been declared dead and over 140 are reported injured, according to SSP Sarbendra Khanal, deputy spokesperson of the Nepal Police.
He informed that over 602 police buildings have been totally damaged. Of these, 46 buildings are in Kathmandu Valley, 159 in the Eastern Region, 198 in the Mid-West, 146 in the Western Region, 44 in the Mid-West and 9 in the Far-Western Region. Most of these are in need of immediate attention. About 41,776 police personnel have been deployed in different quake-hit districts.
Meanwhile, the Armed Police Force said that they are in the process of updating data on quake damage to APF barracks and other structures.
Security personnel have been highly acclaimed in social networking sites for their active participation in rescue and relief operations, at risk to their own lives. NA chief Gaurav SJB Rana, Nepal Police IGP Upendra Kanta Aryal and APF IGP Kosh Raj Onta have been visiting different zones to monitor and engage with the rescue-relief operations.
