KMC deploys 300 municipal police personnel for disaster management within the metropolis

KATHMANDU, Sept 28: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has deployed 17 teams of the municipal police personnel, consisting of 300 officers and personnel for the disaster management amid monsoon-induced disaster wreaking havoc across the metropolis.

Taking to his social media account, Mayor Balendra Shah said that these teams are actively working to minimize the damage to life and property in flooded settlements, riverbanks and clear the roads blocked by fallen trees.

Mayor Shah further said that efforts are ongoing to address problems in areas such as Bansighat (behind Bishwo Niketan School), Kuseshwar, Kapurdhara, Jadibuti, Teku, Swayambhu, Basundhara, Kapan, Shankhamul, New Road and Ganeshthan, among others. He stated that immediate response is being provided based on information from local residents and requests made via the hotline set up by the KMC.

Mayor Shah urged everyone to be responsible to protect themselves and their family members as well as to assist those in need during such disasters.

Mayor Shah also requested to contact the KMC if there is risk of water-related disaster including flood, inundation, rivers overflow and landslide at KMC’s hotline numbers at 16600105511 or 1180, or the Municipal Police Force's hotline at 9851356509 for immediate assistance. Those requiring emergency hospital visits have been asked to call at 102 for ambulances.

Floods and landslides triggered by the incessant rainfall for the past two days have claimed at least 11 lives so far. At least 10 others are missing in various parts of the country.
