KATHMANDU, Jan 20: Human rights activists and lawyers have expressed serious objection to the ruling Nepal Communist Party’s decision to field former Maoist leader Agni Sapkota as a candidate for speaker.

KATHMANDU, Jan 20: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has decided to field Agni Prasad Sapkota for speaker of the House of Representatives. The party’s secretariat meeting on Sunday evening made the decision ending nearly four months long dispute between the party’s former UML and former Maoist factions, each of which claimed the position.

KATHMANDU, Jan 19: Agni Prasad Sapkota, a leader of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, has been proposed as the candidate for the new speaker of the House of Representatives.

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: An effort made by Prime Minister KP Oli and Chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal to pick a new House speaker candidate from within the NCP failed as Deputy Speaker Shiva Maya Tumbahangphe insisted that she would resign from the post only if she is offered the post of speaker.
