KATHMANDU, March 3: The educational institutions and policies seem to be continuously shaped by the donor agencies in Nepal. Sometimes, the three-level school education is turned into two levels. Sometimes, a grading system is implemented where all students pass.

BIRGUNJ, Sep 5: Birgunj Metropolitan City is cracking down on illegally operated educational institutions, recently sealing two more colleges in its ongoing campaign. Annapurna College, located in Ward Number 16, and Universal Academy College in Ward Number 11 have both faced closures as a result of this initiative.

KATHMANDU, July 23: The All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), the student wing of the CPN-UML, has announced that it will refrain from shutting down educational institutions. From now on, no protest program of padlocking educational institutions will be organized, said ANNFSU Chairman Samik Badal at a press conference organized here today.

The proliferation of universities without a concerted effort to enhance their quality is a worrying trend. The situation in most universities, except for a few notable exceptions like Kathmandu University, is far from satisfactory. It is high time that the government directs its attention towards making the existing universities outstanding educational institutions rather than creating more mediocre ones.
