KATHMANDU, April 16: It has been 70 years since the highest peak of the world, Sagarmatha, was climbed by humans. Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary were atop the Sagarmatha, Mt Everest, on May 29, 1953.

The 17th edition of Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) concluded with the special screening of movie ‘Heidi’ by Alain Gsponer (Switzerland/Germany) on Sunday. And it celebrated Sir Edmund Hillary’s centennial year with a special screening of ‘The Ascent of Everest’ by Michael, about the conquest of Everest by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa on May 29, 1953, officially marked the opening of the film festival on Wednesday.

Gearing up for 17 th edition of Kimff

Kimff 2019 will celebrate Sir Edmund Hillary’s centennial year by opening with a special screening of ‘The Ascent of Everest’, about the conquest of Everest by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa on May29, 1953. The film features narration of Sir Edmund Hillary as he revisits momentous situations during the climb.
