There will be no shortage of food grains during rainy season: MoICS

KATHMANDU, July 4: The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies (MoICS) has said there would be no shortage of food grains anywhere during the rainy season this year. 

There is a good stock of food grains in warehouses across the country, and a process to purchase additional food grains and its supply is underway, added the Ministry.

According to the Food Management and Trading Company, currently there is a stock of 36,356 quintals of food grains in Kathmandu Valley and Terai districts.

Similarly, there is a stock of 25,505 quintals of food grains in remote districts, added the Company.  There is now a stock of 26,375 quintals of paddy. 

A total of 34,320 quintals of wheat would be received immediately through Salt Trading under import quota from India. The Company has a stock of 266,300 quintals of food grains. As per the agreement through competition, 89,100 quintals of food grains are arriving in godowns and the food grains to be imported from India have already been loaded. 

A total of 17,830 metric tons of food grains has been supplied in remote districts till June 27 of the current fiscal year. Quota of food grains has been increased in Humla and it is being distributed.

The Company clarified that there is sufficient stock of good grains in eastern districts. Food grains are being distributed by supplying in distribution centers as there are no go-downs to stock food grains at the local-level. 

A total of 47,334 quintals of rice has already been distributed from local level so far in the current fiscal year.
