School enrollment campaign starts from today, PM Dahal calls to enroll school-going age children

KATHMANDU, April 14: The school enrollment campaign for the new academic session 2081 BS has started today. The admission campaign was started with the resolution of 'Ensuring participation of all children in school, quality education'.

On the first day of the campaign, the program started today with the participation of all local government heads of education, unit heads, municipal federations, rural municipality federations, ministries and central agencies in the presence of Education Minister Sumana Shrestha through 'virtual' means.

Director of Education and Human Resource Development Center, Gobinda Raj Pokhrel said that the message of the campaign will be broadcast on FM radios from today till May 3.

As part of this campaign, which will focus on community schools, the school management committee and the teachers-parents association will start the enrollment campaign by distributing textbooks to the students enrolled in the school as per the instructions of the local government on April 14.

A door-to-door program with the campaign banner on April 17, calling on generous members of society to take guardianship of orphaned children on April 19 has been scheduled.

During the campaign, uniforms and scholarships will be provided to the students who get enrolled till that day on April 22. Based on the information received from the Education Development and Coordination Unit, the student details will be prepared and sent to the ministry from April 27 to May 2, the center said.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has appealed to all parents and guardians to enroll their school-going age children in schools.

Referring to the start of the new academic year, along with the beginning of New Year 2081 BS, the Prime Minister has stated that since education is a fundamental right ensured by the constitution, the government has the responsibility to ensure that basic level education is compulsory for all by the year 2085 BS. "The government has been making various efforts for equal access to quality school education. And the contribution of development partners, civil society and the private sector for the implementation of the fundamental right to education is significant," he said. 

In a statement today, the Prime Minister said that we have the responsibility of ensuring that all children of school-going age get enrolled in school and the dropout rate be brought to zero. 

Stating that the government is giving free textbooks, mid-day meals, scholarships to community school students along with appropriate educational infrastructure and skilled human resources in schools, Prime Minister Dahal emphasized collective efforts to make the investment more result-oriented.
