Police to submit investigation report to District Government Attorney's Office today

KATHMANDU, May 22: Kathmandu Police Range Kathmandu is preparing to submit its investigation report to the district attorney's office today on the case of frauding Nepalis in the name of sending them to the US as fake Bhutanese refugees.

After the report was not completed till late on Sunday, police are preparing to submit it today. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dan Bahadur Karki,chief of Kathmandu Police Range, said that they are preparing to submit the report only on Tuesday as some urgent technical work could not be completed.

Police have arrested 16 people and are investigating for fraud and organized crime. On Sunday, the police got additional three-day judicial remand to continue further investigation against the arrested. Some of the accused are still absconding.

SP Sitaram Rijal of Kathmandu Police Range, said that he would submit a report to prosecute them on the basis of all the sections that are attracted by the law.

In this incident, a total of 106 victims have filed complaints saying that Rs 232.5 million was defrauded. According to police sources, it is said that the report has the opinion that some should be prosecuted for fraud and organized crime and some for treason.

In that incident, former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, then Home Secretary Teknarayan Pandey, Bhutanese refugee leader Teknath Rijal, then Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa’s security adviser Indrajit Rai, Chairman of Haj Committee Shamsher Mian, former Speaker Angtawa Sherpa, then Home Minister Khan's personal assistant Narendra KC, Sandeep Rayamajhi. Gang members Keshav Dulal, Sanu Bhandari, Sandesh Sharma, Sagar Rai, Tanka Gurung, Govinda Chaudhary and Ram Sharan KC have been arrested. While, former home minister Ram Bahadur Thapa's son Pratik Thapa and Indrajit Rai's son Neeraj Rai are absconding.
