KHOTANG, Aug 9: Eight political parties including the CPN (Maoist Center) have expressed dissatisfaction over the dispute created by the CPN-UML and Nepali Congress on the number of electoral local units.

The process did not move ahead after the UML and NC did not budge from their stance in the number of electoral local units despite flexibility shown by the Maoist Center.

In an interaction program organized by Press Chautari, Khotang Chapter, party leaders   vented their ire over the UML and Congress saying that they should not stall the process simply over the number of electoral local units.

The leaders suggested that the NC and UML should rise above their partisan interest and take the welfare of the locals into consideration while restructuring the Village Development Committees and municipalities.

The NC proposed that there should be 12 electoral local units in the district having one municipality and 72 VDCs while UML is for nine electoral local units.

The local restructuring commission could not take its work forward after the NC and UML continued sticking to their stance.

The deadline to complete the task on the delineation of local electoral units has been affected after the two big parties did not budge from their stance, said Bikash Adhikari andNischal Pandey, locals.
