JANAKPURDHAM, Sept 17: The Madhesh provincial assembly session which was adjourned on July 16 has not yet resumed. Important bills have not been approved because the session has not commenced.

During the first session of the Provincial Assembly formed after the November 2022 elections last year, 36 meetings were held. Seven bills were registered at that time. Out of which only three bills, including two related to the budget were approved.

Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal said that three bills have been approved: Bill 2079 BS, Economic Bill 2080 BS and Appropriation Bill 2080 BS, which were introduced to amend certain acts of Madhesh Province.

According to Ranjeet Yadav, the Secretary of the Provincial Assembly Secretariat, the bill to make provisions regarding the sports development of the province, the bill to make provisions regarding the protection of girls in the province, the bill to make provisions regarding the formation of local services and the conditions of service, and the Madhesh Province Vehicle and Transport Management Bill have been sent to the thematic committees for discussion.

During the first session of the Madhesh provincial assembly of the second term, only Rs 70.65 million has been spent on the salaries of the provincial assembly members. In the eight months of the second term, the Provincial Assembly Secretariat said that the money was spent by the Provincial Assembly on the salaries of assembly members excluding the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Chief Minister and Minister.

Secretariat Secretary Yadav stated that since the election of the new assembly members (from December 30, 2022 to mid-August 2023), Rs 70.33 million have been spent in seven and a half months. Secretary Yadav said that Rs 70.33 million was spent on the salary of assembly members and Rs 3.13 million on meeting allowance.
