KATHMANDU, August 31: The Sri Lankan Airlines is operating direct flights from Kathmandu to Sri Lanka from today.

Spokesperson at Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Raj Kumar Chhetri, informed that Sri Lankan Airlines was allowed for the Kathmandu-Sri Lanka flight twice a week.

He further said the airlines had applied for the aviation permit for the summer season till September 4. “The company would also apply for further flight permission by observing the situation,” he added.

It has shown interest to conduct flights at the Gautam Buddha International Airport which is under construction in Bhairahawa.

Jenith Travels, its official travel agency in Nepal, said the flight was being launched, considering the Nepalis visiting Sri Lanka. It may boost tourism in Nepal when the pandemic subsides.

Currently, Sri Lankan Airlines is conducting flights in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Maldives and Dubai.  It has also planned to expand its service to Japan, Australia and London, the Travels added.
