KATHMANDU, Sept 22: After transport entrepreneurs declined to open bus ticket bookings for the Dashain festival, Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) on Friday received their applications for releasing their frozen bank accounts, and sent it to the Ministry of Finance (MoF). 

The applications received via District Administration Offices across the country have been sent to the MoF, according to Ram Krishna Subedi, MoHA spokesperson. The details of the applications were not yet available to the media. The MoF is likely to pass a proposal to NRB on Sunday. 

Earlier, the government had decided to release the amount to pay for staff salaries and office operation costs from the bank accounts of transport syndicates which were frozen by the government in May. 

Bank accounts of as many as 245 transport entrepreneurs were frozen at that time to foil their protest against the government’s anti-syndicate drive. 

According to the law, all assets of the transport committees, which were scrapped in May, should be seized by the government. But in this case, government is preparing to return the seized assets to the committees, apparently bowing down to their pressure.
