JANAKPURDHAM, Oct 21: Cadres of the Janmat Party, led by CK Raut, have mistreated Rajesh Kushwaha, chief of the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management (DWSSM), Janakpur, in the name of ‘people's action’.

Janmat Party cadres took Kushwaha hostage from his office at Piradi Chowk on Thursday and paraded him around the city on the pretext of not making proper arrangements for drainage due to which Janakpur was inundated by rains from Monday night to Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Kushwaha, who was working in his office, was taken hostage by Raut supporters who were carrying bamboo sticks. They stripped Kushwaha's upper body while smearing mud all over his body, accusing him of corruption.

While the head of a government office was being paraded around Janakpur, the police were walking helplessly in front of them. Despite the police mobilization, Raut's supporters tore Kushwaha's T-shirt and kept him hostage for hours. He was rescued by the police only after he was taken to the Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan Office.

“It is unfortunate that Kushwaha, chief of DWSSM, was taken under control by the Raut supporters,” said Dhanusha Police Spokesperson DSP Jitendra Basnet. "Ten of the Raut supporters have been arrested for abusing Chief Kushwaha. We cannot give other details for now." The Janamat Party has been raising corruption issues for some time now.
