DODHARA CHANDANI, Nov 22: The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the proposed dry port at Dodhara Chandani has been prepared.

The DPR prepared by India has been sent to Nepal, shared Anish KC, an engineer with Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee.

The construction cost of the Dry Port is estimated to be Rs 5.75 billion and it would be built with the full investment of the Government of India, said engineer KC.

The Dry Port Project is expected to be commenced from 2024 and completed by 2026. A total of 280 bighas of the Mayapuri Community Forest and Gaurishankar Community Forest at Dodhara Chandani Rural Municipality would be used to build the dry port.

The Dry Port will have two go-downs, a customs checkpoint, quarantine, immigration and security buildings among other infrastructures, according to the Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee.

The Indian side has already started constructing an access road linking the Asian Highway.

The Environment Impact Assessment for cutting down trees for the dry port has been approved. It is estimated that 1,989 trees will be cut down in the area where the dry port will be built.

The Government of Nepal had first proposed to build the dry port in Dodhara Chandani in 2064 BS. The construction works, however, had not progressed even an inch owing to various reasons.

If the dry port and western check point would come into operation, they would open a plethora of opportunities for the Sudurpaschim Province, opined Gokarna Awasthi, Director General of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
