KATHMANDU, March 13: Baluwatar Cricket Club has won the Kathmandu District Senior Selection Tournament defeating Mahavir Cricket Club by six wickets in Kathmandu on Thursday.

At the Mulpani Cricket Ground, Baluwatar completed the paltry chase of 159 runs in the 39th over in the national one-day cricket selection tournament’s club cricket final organized by the Kathmandu District Cricket Association (KDCA).

Sonu Tamang and captain Suman Udaya impressed in the final with respective half-centuries in the chase. Player-of-the-match Tamang stayed unbeaten on 52 runs off 58 deliveries which included six boundaries and two sixes whereas Udaya smashed seven boundaries off 82 balls reaching exactly 50 runs. Chandra Kumar Budha, Dipendra Mainali, Jyoti Bhandari and Jitendra Singh Thakuri shared a wicket each for Mahavir.

Earlier, Baluwatar won the toss and invited Mahavir to bat first. Bibhatsu Thapa, who was recently selected by Everest Premier League outfit Lalitpur Patriots as a Talent Hunt winner, played a patient inning of 67 runs. He registered six boundaries and a six during his 149-ball stay as most of the batsmen struggled at the crease.

Once again, the duo of Tamang and Udaya impressed with the ball as well. Tamang picked up four wickets whereas Udaya chipped in with three on the day to help Baluwatar dismiss Mahavir for 158 runs in 46.1 overs. Similarly, Avinash Bashyal, another Patriots talent hunt recruit, Sanjay Shrestha and Sakshyam Kafle shared a wicket each.

New Vision Club’s Naresh Chand and Kathmandu Cricket Training Center’s Ujjwal Thapa won the best batsman and the bowler of the tournament respectively. Chand scored a total of 165 runs in three innings whereas Thapa scalped nine wickets in two matches.

Similarly, the veteran Baluwatar all-rounder Udaya was adjudged the player-of-the-series. He scored a total of 123 runs and picked up nine wickets to help his club win the tournament.
