KATHMANDU, Jan 6: The Nepali Congress (NC) has expressed sorrow over the Barahathawa incident.

The 30-year-old Jay Shankar Saha was killed in a clash that erupted between demonstrators and security personnel as the locals demonstrated for upgrading a primary health center of Barahathawa Municipality-6 on Friday.

Issuing a press release today, NC party office Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel said that the NC's serious attention was drawn towards the death of Saha in the shooting by security personnel.

Extending heartfelt tribute to the deceased, the NC expressed deep condolences towards the bereaved family members.

It also urged the government to carry out an investigation by studying the reality of the incident, to manage treatment of the injured and to be serious towards the genuine issues raised by demonstrators.

Requesting one and all to adopt peaceful, disciplined and not-violent measures while raising voices for rights, the NC appealed to security bodies and all concerned sides for maintaining restraint.

Meanwhile, the local authority in Sarlahi has continued the curfew imposed on Barahathawa since Friday afternoon, in view of the likelihood of unrest following the death.

The curfew clamped from 5:30 pm Friday to 8:00 am today was  extended till 8:00 am Sunday.
