Dhankuta, Nov 24: The CPN-UML has made a clean sweep in Dhankuta winning the one and only seat of the House of Representatives from the constituency and both seats of Provincial Assembly.
Rajendra Kumar Rai of the CPN-UML defeated Sunil Bahadur Thapa, the common candidate of the ruling alliance, by a margin of 1,397 votes to secure a lower house seat.
Rai secured 30,101 votes while his closest rival Thapa of Nepali Congress received 28,704 votes.
Similarly, UML's Niran Rai won a seat in the Provincial Assembly with 17,018 votes in Dhankuta A. His closest rival, Arjun Rai of CPN (Unified Socialist), a common candidate of the ruling alliance, secured 10,226 votes.
Likewise, UML candidate Indramani Parajuli won a seat in the Provincial Assembly from Dhankuta B. He garnered 15,797 votes while his closest rival Kusum Kumari Shrestha of the CPM (Maoist Centre) secured 11,230 votes.
Out of 116,991 voters in the district, 69,496 exercised their voting rights, according to the Office of the Chief Returning Officer.
