National Assembly member Komal Oli files defamation case against CPN (UML) leader Raghuji Pant

KATHMANDU, March 9: National Assembly member Komal Oli on Tuesday filed a defamation case against Raghuji Pant, a leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist), at the District Court, Kathmandu.

Oli, who is also a singer and a journalist, registered the defamation case against leader Pant for  making "slandering remarks" against her.

In a charge-sheet, Oli accused the UML leader of assassinating her character with the intention or in full conscience.

The upper house member has sought action against the leader in accordance with the Clause 305 (1) and (2) of the Criminal Code, 2017 and additional one year jail-term and a fine of Rs 10,000 for the use of electronic media for the defamation, Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) reported.

She also demanded compensation bearing in mind the sensitivity of the offense and damage his remarks caused to her prestige and the recovery of expenditure she made for seeking justice. Panta, who is also a former minister, claimed that Oli became parliamentarian by using wrong means.

Taking the name of lawmaker Oli, Panta on February 27, said that she was able to become a lawmaker by cashing in on her body parts even as she had no contribution to the party at all. (With inputs from RSS)
