Traditional cloth pouch (Thaili) is her main motif along with female figures, men, wavy water, fishes, lotus and children among others; which she links with various aspects or feelings one gets in life. Her artworks are dreamlike which are pleasant to the eyes and have a rhythm to them. She has not created any facial features for any of the human figures. The reason for not having facial features is that any viewers can relate the artworks to themselves.

Art to her rescue

Art has been a part of Rashana Bajracharya’s life since she was a toddler. Now a freelance illustrator, visual artist and a designer at the Supreme Court, Bajracharya is a well-known name in the Nepali art scene. And Bajracharya claims that she sees art as more than just her career.

Visual artist Ashmina Ranjit’s artwork ‘Sacredness within and beyond: Multiple Kailash’ has been nominated as one among 30 other international artists for The Sovereign Asian Art Prize, representing Nepal. The winning artist is awarded US$30,000 at an annual sell-out Gala Dinner in Hong Kong. The 29 other works are auctioned, with the artists receiving 50 percent of proceeds and the other 50 percent funding the charitable work of the Foundation.

Visual artist and art journalist, Devendra Thumkeli reminisce his childhood days indulged in making clay arts which later encouraged him to pursue career in contemporary arts. He holds a Master’s in Fine Arts from Tribhuvan University. For nearly two decades he has also been working as a journalist writing for ‘art’ column.
