KATHMANDU, Nov 13: Supporters of Nepali Congress leader Mohammad Aftab Alam kidnapped a victim of the Rautahat bomb blast of 2008 and forced him to change the statement he recorded against Alam, it is learnt.

ROLPA, June 22: The beheaded body of Ramji Gharti was found in Mawang of Jaimakasla of Rolpa district late in the evening on February 1, 1997. Fifty-four-year-old Gharti, a local of Thawang Rural Municipality-5, was allegedly killed by the then insurgents. Later, police informed the family members about the death after recovering his body.

DHADING, Dec 27: Chandri Maya Tamang broke her leg during the devastating earthquake last year. Over one and half years on, her condition has worsened instead of getting better. Tamang, a local of Jharlang village of Dhading, is bedridden and is seeking support for her treatment.

Many people in Nepal are still superstitious and have strong faith in supernatural powers. These centuries old conservative beliefs are still deep-rooted in the social structures of our society. They can be traced to various cultural activities among different communities and sadly, some even lead to both physical and mental abuse. Most of the time, victims of such violence are women especially the ones who are weak, poor and single.
KATHMADNU, July 3: Apart from pledges to make available Rs 1 million in compensation for each of the families of those killed in the Kabul attack on June 20, the Nepal government has intensified its diplomatic efforts to bring additional compensation from the recruiting company and the government of Canada.
