KATHMANDU, March 25: The country reported almost 70,000 new patients of tuberculosis (TB) in the fiscal year 2079/080 BS. According to the National Tuberculosis Center, only 37,447 patients received treatment of the total 70,000 new patients reported in the year 2079/080 BS.

JHAPA, March 23: A total of 79 people have died of tuberculosis in the past six months in Koshi Province. The figure is higher compared to the fatalities in the corresponding period last year.

KATHMANDU, Sept 23: Tuberculosis testing has been done free of charge in eight wards of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC). The Japan Tuberculosis Prevention Organization organized a two-day free tuberculosis (TB) health camp in collaboration with the Japan Nepal Health and Tuberculosis Research Organization and the local ward offices.

A modern  'Gene Expert' machine has been installed in Taplejung to detect tuberculosis (TB) germs within two hours. Till now, microscopy has been used to test for tuberculosis at primary health centers and health posts. In the past, however, after carrying out microscopic examinations, the Gene Expert machine would be used to confirm that the patients had tuberculosis.

KATHMANDU, March 25: Minister for Health and Population, Birodh Khatiwada has announced plans to launch nationwide campaigns to implement the policy to make Nepal tuberculosis-free within four years.

Global efforts to combat TB have saved 63 million lives since 2000. Ending the TB epidemic by 2030 is among the health targets of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The World Health Organization’s Global Tuberculosis Report, released on October 17, outlines several positive trends in the battle against the world’s most deadly infectious disease.

KAILALI, Aug 29: In 2017, there were 29 tuberculosis cases in Masuriya, a village in Kailali district. The following year, this number reached 40.  The new TB patients have been found in the same localities where cases were seen some 18 years ago. Masuriya Health Post is alarmed at the spurt in TB cases within such a small population.

KATHMANDU, March 24: Tuberculosis kills 18 people every day, according to the National Tuberculosis Center. In 2017/18, at least 196,000 people have been suspected with the disease. However, less than a quarter of the patients, around 32,000 accessed treatment, the Center said.

Tuberculosis (TB) became a very good friend of mine. I had no idea when we first met but meeting TB was a blessing in disguise. It helped me broaden my vision and most importantly, gave me an opportunity to know myself. It stayed with me for six months and gave me amazing memories. Before I got diagnosed with TB, my life was hectic; I used to rush to volunteer in different events from morning to evening. I hardly had time for my family. I was lost in my own world where my focus was only work.
