Since the 2006 political change there have been vast improvements in Nepal’s legal and constitutional provisions on women’s rights. The new constitution criminalizes all kinds of violence—physical, mental, sexual and psychological—against women.

CPN (Maoist Center) leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha has been closely involved in inter-party negotiations surrounding the announcement of local elections on Monday. He also visited India last week and met a range of actors, including top Indian government officials. He reportedly informed them on the importance of timely local elections in Nepal.

We believe that solutions to all outstanding problems in Nepal can be found by staying within the bounds of the new constitution. The constitution is a forever-evolving document, which can (and should) be changed with the changing needs of the society it represents. This is why we are troubled when our otherwise responsible politicians start floating extra-constitutional solutions.

KATHMANDU, Nov 16: At a time when many political leaders go abroad for medical treatment at huge expense to the government, some of them opt for treatment within Nepal. They have faith in the medical services that the ordinary people have been getting.

The National Planning Commission (NPC) is the apex advisory body of the government for formulating a national vision, periodic plans and policies for development. It serves as a central agency for monitoring and evaluating development plans, policies and programs. Despite the NPC taking a lead role in the formulation of planning as well as monitoring of development projects, the implementation aspect has remained weak as reflected in the failure to boost capital expenditure. Sagar Ghimire and Laxman Biyogi of Republica talked with Min Bahadur Shrestha, the vice chairman of the NPC, on the problems in project planning and implementation as well as the government plan to bring supplementary budget. These are the lucky ones as they enjoy an amazing moment each day of them being together. But, perfection is an understatement. I have met a lot of people who complain that something is missing in their life. At times it is the incompatibility with people in their family. Or maybe it could be the thought of taking the other person for granted.
