KATHMANDU, July 27: The Patan High Court  has issued an interim order following initial hearings on a writ petition filed against the ward chairman of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-30, Dal Bahadur Karki, who threatened to kill all community dogs in his ward. The petition was filed by animal rights activist Sneha Shrestha and her team. Shrestha is the president of the  Federation of Animal Welfare Nepal and founder of Sneha’s Care, a shelter for sick and injured street animals.

While human health is vital, it is also critical to consider animal welfare and apply dog population management techniques that do not cause these species unnecessary discomfort.

KATHMANDU, June 20: Two operators of the local board of Kathmandu Animal Treatment (KAT) Center (UK) have been accused of embezzling large sums of money which was meant for the treatment of street dogs.

Little act with a big impact

The condition of stray dogs has always been pitiful in Nepal. They are kicked, beaten, and sometimes even run over by heavy vehicles. And, time and again, there have been cases where the community or the government has even put them to sleep. And on the exact opposite end of this spectrum are the dogs of “good breed” that most Nepali households buy for thousands of rupees. While a lot of organizations and initiations to help street dogs have started in the past few years, the condition of the stray dogs hasn’t really changed that much.
