KATHMANDU, August 12: The government has expedited the process of providing subsidized loans to startups that have remained on hold since last year.

KATHMANDU, August 5: Nepalese Young Entrepreneurs Forum (NYEF), a non-profit organization under the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, is organizing the NYEF Kathmandu Startup Awards with the aim to facilitate developing a business ecosystem in Nepal through the means of exposure, mentorship and investment to the startups.

It has been a while since Dulla Shoes launched its product in Nepal. From 2012 till date, Ahmed Dulla, Founder of Dulla Shoes has been through a roller coaster ride on his maiden entrepreneurial Venture.

With a theme of “Economic Transformation Through Innovation and Entrepreneurship”, second Nepal Startup Meet was held at Alice Reception, Gairidhara on Monday.  Organized by Entrepreneurs Society (NES), the event saw the 13 fresh startups which were selected from a pool of 75 startup applications from across Nepal.

Three start-up ideas awarded

As CEO and founder of the company, Thapa helps marginalized women make environment friendly, stylish and 100 percent plastic free cloth bags. With no investors, stakeholders or co-owners, Thapa began with a personal investment of 2.5 lakh rupees. The company started with a bang as their first order called for ten thousand bags. But this achievement also came with issues that no entrepreneur ever expects to  face in the initial years of their startup, an economic blockade. But even with insufficient manpower, minimal fuel and extended deadlines, Thapa and her group managed to overcome their hurdles, and completed their task.
