PALPA, June 29: Hybrid seeds have gradually taken over, putting local seeds on the verge of disappearance. Farmers have been lately attracted to cultivating hybrid crops, vegetables and fruits with their relatively high production.

TIKAPUR, Nov 6: Every day hundreds of farmers ride bicycles to reach the Indian market and return with sacks of potatoes. At this time, farmers can be seen returning with sacks of potatoes on their bicycles in the border area.

KATHMANDU, JULY 14: Farmers have been earning good incomes by producing seeds in Chitwan. Farmers of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-14, Patihani, have been earning more than Rs 65 million annually by producing original seeds. Umanath Poudel, chairman of the Advanced Seed Growing Farmers Group, said that the farmers have earned an annual income of Rs 65.36 million by producing paddy, wheat, zucchini, lentils and kidney bean seeds.

KAILALI, Nov 6: Chedaram Rana, a farmer from Krishnapur Municipality-9, sows wheat seeds in his farm by the end of October every year. By the beginning of November, the seeds would even start bearing saplings. This year, however, Rana has not even plowed his field.

DAMAK, March 19: Use of improved seeds has been increased as the number of commercial farmers practicing modern methods of farming is growing in recent years. Farmers in Jhapa have brought seeds processing center into operation. Maharani Jhoda Small Farmers Cooperative Institution has started operating seeds processing center in the district for the comfort of farmers.

TANAHUN, Nov 7: About six tons of seeds of improved wheat varieties is lying unused at the warehouse of District Agriculture Development Office (DADO), Tanahun, as local farmers have shown reluctance to cultivate wheat.
