KATHMANDU, June 12: The Supreme Court has sought a written answer from the government regarding why the illegal extraction of sand, pebbles and stones from the Sunkoshi river was not stopped.

DOLAKHA, March 22: Locals have accused police of misbehaving them in the name of curbing illegal sand mines operating on the bank of Tamakoshi River.

TIKAPUR, March 22: Since the past two months dozens of tractor trailers have been transporting loads of stones and sand illegally extracted from the Karnali River toward Bardiya.

MELAMCHI, August 8: Police have impounded 13 trucks for smuggling sand after illegally excavating it from Indrawati river on Monday night.

KATHMANDU, Aug 10: The Ministry of Industry (MoI) has prepared a draft to set criteria for excavating sand and aggregates in various parts of the country with a view to end series of controversies about sand mining and excavation of construction materials.
