In Nepal, the red panda is listed as a nationally-protected species under the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1973 AD. There are around 1,000 red pandas in Nepal according to the National Red Panda Census of 2016, distributed both inside and outside protected areas.
PHUNGLING, Jan 31: Information on Red Panda is now being taught in schools with the objective of developing awareness to protect the endangered animal. The Red Panda Network, working to preserve Red Panda, has developed text books on environment conservation including Red Panda to be taught in the schools.
TAPLEJUNG, Dec 30: The red pandas, already an endangered species, have faced new threat after its grazing land and habitat turned into ashes due to the fire that broke out in and around the forest area of Pathivara, posing a serious threat to the existence of the endangered mammals.
Illam, Dec 28: Sandakpur Rural Municipality has signed a contract of 7.8 million rupees to protect and conserve Red Panda. The wildlife spans an area of 200 ropanis of land at Maipatal of Sulubung in Sandakpur.
PANCHTHAR, June 6: Ten red pandas in the jungles of Sandakpur area of Ilam district have been fitted with radio collars. The collaring attached to six female and four male red pandas is expected to supply the authorities even the minute information on the activities of these shy and rare creatures.
JUMLA, Feb 14: With increased poaching activities and rampant destruction of habitat, Jumla district is finding it challenging to conserve the endangered red pandas.Stakeholders, in a conservation program organized on Thursday, expressed deep concern over the failure to protect red pandas even in the conservation areas.“The government should have efficient policies for protecting red pandas,” said civil society leader Raj Bahadur Mahat.
Conserving red panda, an endangered species, is becoming a challenge in Jumla amid increasing habitat loss and poaching. In addition, forest fires and human encroachment and attacks for domesticated dogs are also threatening its existence. There are around 1,000 individuals in the country.

The schools that are located near the habitats of red panda have commenced the classes about red panda to aware the students about the world's endangered species.
