JOHANNESBURG, June 16: One of Africa’s largest wildlife preserves is marking a year without a single elephant found killed by poachers, which experts call an extraordinary development in an area larger than Switzerland where thousands of the animals have been slaughtered in recent years.
KATHMANDU, Sept 13: On September 4, the Metropolitan Police Circle Durbar Marg caught Shukra Rai and Ajit Basnet on the charge of poaching red panda. Both Rai and Basnet were on the move from Bauddha on a motorbike when they were caught with five red panda hides.
CHITWAN, May 14: The Central Investigation Bureau has initiated a search operation to arrest 90 poachers who still are at large. In coordination with the Wildlife Crime Control Unit of Chitwan National Park, the District Police Office, and Nepal Army will assist the CIB in its search.
NEPALGUNJ, Feb 2: A video camera installed for tiger census at Banke National Park recently captured a poacher roaming around with a gun on his back. Fifty such cameras were installed at different locations of the park about a month ago to count the number of tigers.
BAJHANG, Jan 30: With the sudden plunge in temperature after heavy snowfall in the mountain region, wild animals and birds have moved to human settlement areas to escape the bitter cold. However, they have turned victims at the hands of locals and poachers.
