Being an artist today definitely has its perks. For the longest time, art was limited to painting, sketching, sculpting in real life, which once complete could never be retouched again. There are incidents in our society where a married woman's position in a family is nothing but synonymous to a cow. The family is feeding her so; she has to do whatever they ask her to do. And we are also very accustomed with the social norms that till now, we do not question why only women have to leave their birth place after marriage. Meanwhile, if a woman wants her husband also leave the house, then the woman is blamed as the home wrecker.

At Ratnapark there is a splotched mural that has been painted over with brusque strokes of white paint and scribbled on forcefully. The smear is an obvious attempt at dismissing an artistic protest. On closer inspection of the mural, however, the bold letters peek out despite the white paint that blurs the two-word text. ‘Dead Sarkar’, it says (Dead Government).

Brandishing a paintbrush in her snout, Pigcasso enthusiastically tosses her head to create bright, bold strokes across a canvas propped up in her sty.

In the painting, there is a rhythm in the use of motifs and the color combination has a balance making it aesthetically appealing. Though having numerous things happening in the canvas, his skillful way to use positive and negative space has given a balance in the painting. This has led the viewers to get a clear picture of what the artist is trying to convey.

As students do not have much financial support for an exhibition, it took them five months to make the exhibition a success. They are financially in debt and about the exhibition, Vikram shared, “We four connected instantly and we saved money from our pockets for the exhibition. In the course of our work, the owner of frame store was well impressed by our work that he did us a generous favor by making the frames in credit.” The exhibition started with a positive spirit and they are happy with the favorable outcome.

Sabin Bhandari comes from a family of artists. His grandfather, Kulman Bhandari is a renowned artist and sculptor. Also, his dad and uncles used to paint and sculpt as well. So naturally, looking up to them as a kid, he too started drawing and painting before finally realizing that he, in fact, had a knack for it. Bhandari, now 27, has mixed this very childhood interest with his educational background in computer engineering to create art and design in graphics.

Every single time a customer enters her teacher’s thangka shop in Bhaktapur, Meru Tamang can’t help but look up expectantly from the back room. The 21 year old apprentice can be found practicing her shading and coloring there on the weekdays. She has been training in the arts of thangka painting for a little more than a year now and the first batch of the work she has helped with has only recently been put up for sale. So whenever a potential buyer begins to survey the various thangkas at the shop’s display, she shares that she can’t help but feel a tinge of nerves and excitement.
