Expedite national pride projects

Multiple delays, multiple deadline extensions, multiple irregularities and negligence are perhaps what characterize our multi-billion rupees development projects—including the national pride ones on which Nepal exclusively relies to achieve its development goals. This laxity and non-action on national pride projects will cost us dearly—both in terms of economy and the benefits people are supposed to derive from their completion. As Republica has found out, only seven out of 21 national pride projects have achieved 50 percent or more progress although their completion deadlines are inching closer.

KATHMANDU, Oct 13: Only seven out of the 21 national pride projects have achieved 50 percent or more progress although their completion deadlines are inching closer.

KATHMANDU, Sept 23: The government on Friday declared a 300-kilometer-long transmission line implemented under the US government grant of US$ 500 million as a national pride project.

KATHMANDU, Sept 12: There has been significant progress in the national pride projects in the last fiscal year, according to a report tabled to the prime minister on Tuesday by National Planning Commission (NPC) at the 43rd meeting of National Action Development Committee.

The Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) would have been a crowded airport nowadays operating multiple flights a day, if it was constructed in its first deadline. But it is still under construction and the construction is snail paced. Though it is one of the most prioritized ‘national pride projects’, locals express doubt that it would complete anytime soon.
