Media Council as conscience builder

All communication scholars across the globe unanimously agree that human beings cannot NOT communicate. Even silence is strong communication among them. Biologically, communication mechanism lies within us. Mentally, intra-psychological communication incessantly occurs within us. Socially, communication is an essential process of co-existential relations and mutual transactions.

KATHMANDU, Sept 3: Lawmakers from both ruling and opposition political parties have demanded removal from the proposed Media Council Bill of any fines for journalists violating the journalistic code of conduct.

Drop the draft bill, don’t even consider revising it. Rather, force the media community to form their own independent press standards mechanism. Let them call it whatever name they choose

KATHMANDU, May 14: The speaker of the House of Representatives and the chairperson of the National Assembly (NA) have assured a delegation from the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) of their support for amending regressive provisions in media-related bills which are under discussion in parliament.

BETRAWATI, May 10: Joint General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, has said the bill on media council would be unacceptable to his party because it was being brought to violate freedom of expression and press.
