SC says travel ban on Bista unlawful

KATHMANDU, Nov 1: The Department of Immigration’s decision to bar former Maoist child solider Lenin Bista from travelling abroad was unlawful, the Supreme Court has ruled. Responding to a writ petition filed by Bista, a division bench of SC Justice Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Kumar Regmi on Thursday said that the authorities concerned had breached laws and violated Bista’s fundamental rights by prohibiting him from travelling to Thailand.

KATHMANDU, Sept 2: The Supreme Court has issued a show-cause order to the government in a writ filed by Lenin Bista, a former Maoist child soldier who was barred from flying to Thailand for a seminar.

KATHMANDU, Aug 31: Lenin Bista has filed a case against Ministry of Home Affairs and Tribhuwan International Airport's immigration department at the Supreme Court .

KATHMANDU, Aug 28: Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has sent a letter to the home ministry, seeking a written reply within 24 hours why Lenin Bista, a former child militant, was barred from flying to Thailand to attend a seminar.

KATHMANDU, Aug 27: Legal experts, activists and civil society leaders say that the current government of KP Oli is increasingly showing tendencies of an authoritarian and totalitarian state. Senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi said that the government's decision to bar former Maoist child soldier Lenin Bista from traveling to Thailand to attend a conference is deeply troubling. He further said this is a gross abuse of power invested in the government by the people.
