KATHMANDU, JUNE 10: Over 35,000 Nepali jobseekers have attended a Korean language test on Saturday, the first day of examinations held under the Employment Permit System (EPS) to select potential candidates for jobs in South Korea. About half of some 75,580 applicants for the test are scheduled to sit for the language examination on Sunday.
ILAM, June 11: Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM), which is known for its campaigns for creating a separate state of 'Gorkhaland' within India, has decided to intensify its language protests in various places of India's West Bengal state.

The government of Nepal made a decision to change the rules of writing in Devanagari script in which the Nepali language is based. This decision was taken five years ago without consensus among linguists to reportedly maintain uniformity in the written and phonetic forms of the Nepali language. According to the new rules, the practice of writing the ‘half alphabet’ and ‘joint alphabet’ would come to an end and school curricula needed to be revised accordingly.

KATHMANDU, Sept 8:The government on Thursday formed a Language Commission and appointed Lawadev Awasthi as its head, in accordance with a provision of the new Constitution that makes formation of such a commission mandatory by September 19.
On February 1, 2015, a post appeared on Facebook. The post was by a Newar student who had lost his mother tongue after he joined his English Medium School. About 15 years later the student gives some suggestions to his school on how to promote ethnic languages. He admits that if his school had only allocated time and place he would not have lost it. He would have assembled a group of students and teachers and conversed in his mother tongue at least for 30 minutes or he would have even conducted some cultural programs. By doing so, he would not have lost it as he had.
DARJEELING, JULY 14: Chowrasta Chowk in Darjeeling echoed with Bhanubhakta Acharya's poetry and Nepal's national anthem throughout Tuesday. Most of the men present there were in daura-suruwal, the traditional Nepali outfit, and the women wore chaubandi cholo.
KATHMANDU, July 6: Bollywood actress Sara Loren has taken to Nepali language as a means of communication in the Bollywood film Ishq Click. She has taken training in Nepali language as it is included as a part of dialogue in the film Ishq Click in which she is performing as a major character.
